Slot Machine Licenses Up in the Air

With two slot machine licenses still up for grabs, there has been much speculation as to who might get them. The slot machine industry is seen to be a $3 billion industry, and businesses across the state are waiting to get their piece of the pie. The Gaming Control Board has been busy sifting through 1.4 million pieces of paper on their way to deciding who will get the slot machine licenses.

It has taken more than 200 state regulators over the past twelve months to decide who might get the slot machine licenses. Their final pitches are set to start on Monday, with proposals for the slot machine license coming from Allentown, Bethlehem and the Poconos. Each of the groups will have a chance to make their final pitch as to why they should be the ones to get the coveted slots license.

''A lot has led up to this month. I know my usual day is 11 hours, and I don't know anyone who isn't working weekends,'' said Sean Hannon, the gaming board's enterprise license manager. ''When [the slot machine license process] is finally over, I think there will be a big celebration around here.''

The front runners seem to be Bethlehem and Mt. Airy, but no one knows for sure what the gaming board is thinking, or who they might end up giving the slot machine licenses to.
