Slot Machines Not
All AC has to Offer
With PA and NY
now offering slot machines, Atlantic City knows that it will be
tougher to draw patrons from those states. They know that with slot
machines in their own backyards, many will not be willing to make the
drive to come to Atlantic City for what they can get much closer.
Therefore, AC knows that it has to raise the bar – and show customers
that they are more than just the slot machines.
They are
pushing things other than their slot machines, such as table games,
nightclubs, entertainment, things that will lure them to the city.
They are also opening four more casinos to add to the slot machine
competition. Talks are already underway for Pinnacle Entertainment,
Morgan Stanley, Caesars Entertainment Inc., and MGM Mirage to open
slot machine and gambling casinos by 2010. MGM Mirage owns the Borgata,
which was the top grossing slot machine and gambling casino for the
city at $57.5 million last month. It was followed by Bally’s at $53.7
million and Caesars at $47.4 million.
Donald Trump is
also looking to make some changes with his slot machine and gambling
casinos. He and Steve Wynn are looking to partner on a project for
Trump Plaza right in the heart of the Boardwalk. Last month their slot
machines faired well with revenue increases for Trump Marina of 11.1%
and Trump Plaza of 9.2%. Trump Taj Mahal was down 4.3%.
Harrah’s
Entertainment’s slot machines may soon be under another name as they
are fielding buyout offers from two different firms. Harrah’s is the
largest gambling company in the world, and the largest operator in AC
– holding four slot machine and gambling casinos.
