Straban Township Preps for Slots

The Straban Township Board of Supervisors is looking into plans for the Crossroads Gaming Resort and Spa. Chance Enterprises has gone ahead and submitted the plans, even though the Pennsylvania Gaming Board is months away from making any sort of decision regarding where slot machine licenses will be given out. Chance thinks they are a shoo-in, and they want to be ready if chosen. They don’t want to start the process when they find out, for they think that will be putting them too far behind.

They think that if they go ahead and submit plans now, and start getting approvals, they can then start getting any sort of license or permits that they might need for the construction. The Board of Supervisors is simply looking at the zoning laws and ordinances to see if they will allow the structure to be built. They do not decide where the slot machines are going, simply the rules of the construction. The Gaming Board makes the final slot machine decision, and they will start holding public hearings to assist them in making that final judgment.  The board feels that there is a good chance that decision will be completed by December.

The fact that the decision process will be over way before the planning process, it makes sense that Chance would go ahead with their plans. If they are selected as a slot machine casino, then they already have a head start on what could take years of planning to get approved. The final plans will not be given approval until a slots machine license is given, but they are hoping that it will happen long before it is needed.
