Singel No Longer Distributing Slots
The former lieutenant governor under Governor Robert P. Casey is
taking his name off of the application that would allow his company to
act as a slot machine middleman in Pennsylvania. Mark Singel, a
lobbyist and consultant with The Winter Group, removed his name after
former Allegheny County Chief Executive Jim Roddey forfeited his slot
machine license. Citing similar reasons, Mr. Singel sent a letter to
the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board in which he said: “Despite all
efforts to comply with the spirit and the letter of the legislation,
unfortunately, most of the media coverage of suppliers continues to
suggest that any individual in the process with any political pedigree
is unsuitable. The media has chosen to make me and other former
elected officials the issue, rather than focus on the true role of
(slot machine) suppliers as envisioned by the Legislature."
Mr. Singel’s group
is called Revenco Gaming, and although they have as of yet to receive
their license, Singel’s name will no longer appear on the slot machine
application. The company will still attempt to get a license, but
because of the way the government has been handling the slot machine
applications, they are not hopeful that they will be approved any time
soon.
Mr. Singel stated,
“"Five full months later, after a stream of interviews, questions,
additions, and other actions by the board staff, the board has failed
to act on [our application]. The piecemeal awarding of licenses has
already caused a huge competitive disadvantage to this company." The
company has yet to line up a deal with a slot machine company to
distribute the slots. Back to
