Russians Seek Gambling Ban

In Bloomberg, Russia, there was talk of a gambling ban on slot machines in all towns and cities. The Public Charter is charging the government to put a permanent ban on all slot machines as they felt they were destroying their society. "It's an illness. It's our challenge not to let it spread," chamber member Karen Shakhnazarov said.

She was not alone, the Russian Orthodox Bishop, Metropolitan Feofan, claims that he has seen what gambling can do to a country, and that this is not something they want to welcome in their towns. He claims that it is a blight on the country, and that it must be stopped. That even where there is no food and water for the poor people, “there’s a slot machine.”

The Russian government isn’t so quick to agree however. Slot machines bring in quite a bit of revenue for the country, bringing in $6 billion every year. It also increases roughly twenty percent every year as well. It seems that the Public Charter is probably going to have to wait a while for their slot machine ban.
