Jim Roddey: Slot Machine Middleman

Jim Roddey, of Pittsburg, has announced he has formed a new corporation called New Century Entertainment. Mr. Roddey has formed this company with several other businessmen in the Pittsburgh area to buy slot machines from slot machine manufacturers, and then turn around and sell them to casinos. Their license to operate was approved yesterday by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board.

The Company is planning to act as slot machine middlemen, due to the new interest in Pennsylvanians to get slot machines put into their state. The company also includes: George Miles, President of WQED Multimedia; Mike Fetchko, president of a sports marketing company; Doris Carson Williams, African American Chamber of Commerce President; and Neely Frye, a Harrisburg lobbyist. The Gaming Board also approved licenses for three other slot machine suppliers and/or distributors yesterday. They are: KGM Gaming, CGR Gaming Associates, and Liberty Gaming Distributors.

The approvals yesterday bring the number of slot machine suppliers approved to 15. Each pays the board a $25,000 license fee.  New Century felt they had a good chance at getting approved as the company consists of more than 25 percent minority members – and they plan to give 20% of their revenue to other groups including the African American Cultural Center. Once each slot machine distributor is licensed they must then contact a company that manufactures slot machines and establish a relationship with them. New Century Entertainment has been in talks with International Game Technology, the largest slot machine manufacturer in the world.
