Pottawatomie Tribe Makes a Payment

The Forest County Pottawatomie Tribe has been making some pretty good money, and some of it is going to the state. The tribe just handed the state a check for $24 million in payment as per their gambling agreement. The tribe took in almost $343 million, and is required to pay the state seven percent of that amount.

The agreement was made with Governor Jim Doyle after he allowed them to bring in more slot machines. In fact the tribe has no slot machine limits at all now. He also allowed them to bring in new games like roulette and craps, which will ultimately bring in more money to the tribe and the state. The payment is not the first one that the tribe has paid to the state, in fact last year they paid $44 million. This year’s payment is only slightly more than half of the previous year’s payment.
