No Casino for Rockaway Beach

Let’s say you want to expand the number of slot machine and gambling casinos into your state, but they have already been voted down. Not by a small number, but by a large number of people in your state saying that they just don’t want that. Then let’s say you decide that you really want these slot machines, so you go to seventy different companies and ask them for proposals to bring in your slot machines – and only one company sends you a proposal. Do you get the hint? Probably not if you are Rockaway Beach, Missouri – they want to bring in slot machines and the voters of the state have already said no – but they still keep trying.

Barden Development, out of Las Vegas, proposed bringing in 1300 slot machines, as well as 41 table games, etc. – to the tune of $144 million. However, they are in a whole heap of financial trouble, slashing costs and laying off over 300 workers. So you probably can’t really count on them to come through.  A Springfield Trucking Firm tried to get a Rockaway Beach Casino about two years ago, and lost time and $13 million in its attempts.

The fact that Barden is willing to put big money that they don’t have in trying to get a constitutional amendment passed, is probably not a good idea.
