Ft. McDowell Helps Smaller Tribes
If you want to
start a slot machine casino, one of the best places to look is the
Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation, who has done is quite successfully over
the past few years. The tribe employs over 2,000 people, and has
multiplied in size over the last decade. They also have other
businesses besides the slot machines, and it just keeps growing. The
community is happy it is there as they give back as much as they get.
They are currently building 144 homes for tribal members alone.
So when three
Nebraska tribes needed help to get slot machine casinos of their own,
they turned to Fort McDowell, who was more than happy to help. They
donated $250,000 to the campaign, as well as gave them any kind of
support they needed. The tribes needed to collect signatures to get on
the ballot in November. They were not successful this time, but are
going to try and get enough for next year instead. They are hoping to
revitalize the area and help bring in revenue and jobs for the three
tribes - but will have to wait until next year to realize that dream.
The tribes
collected money for the campaign from Fort McDowell - who gave nearly
60% of that budget; they also collected $1.2 million from Boyd Gaming
Inc, a manufacturer of slot machines. The Santee, Omaha and Winnebago
tribes are probably going to try again at a later date. As for Fort
McDowell, they don’t want anything in return for their money; they
just want to be able to help someone else who is where they used to
be.
