Manitoba Slots Overwhelmed

In Manitoba, The South Beach casino has been open now for a little over a year. They are actually doing quite well, in fact, a bit too well. Patrons are complaining over long lines waiting to use the slot machines. The lines have gotten so long, that many clients are simply giving up and leaving for it just isn’t worth the wait.  The casino is located on the Brokenhead First Nation near Grand Beach.

The casino is trying to get permission to expand. They feel that if they were able to increase the number of slot machines from the current 300 to an idea 600 slots, they would be in a much better position to assist their customers. Furlon Barker, Chair of the South Beach board said, "We need at least a minimum of about 150 machines more to be able to accommodate the demand."

He told CBC news that without the upgrade in slot machines; they will not be able to handle the traffic. So far they have been turned down. The government told them they would reconsider their request in May of 2007, as that was the deal that was originally made with the casino.
