Learn and Earn Ads Begin Airing

The Learn and Earn Campaign to bring slot machines into Ohio will begin airing the first of several TV commercials today. They have chosen the Toledo market to see how the new ads will be received. The group is trying to bring more money into Ohio for scholarships and education through the use of slot machines.  They already have other ads running on the radio, but those ads simply mention the new scholarship campaign, they do not mention the slot machine part of the initiative.

This new ad does mention the slot machines however. Opponents say that even though the group is now being forthcoming to voters as to where the money will actually come from, they are still being misleading by making people think that everyone will benefit from the addition of the slot machines. They say that it is all just a cover to get slot machines into the racetracks, and they are camouflaging it through the use of scholarships for education. They claim that in reality, only the top five percent of all graduating classes would actually benefit from the bill, at least during the first twelve years.

The Learn and Earn Group however, thinks they have been on the up and up with the whole process and really do think that it is going to get approved. They need 322,899 signatures in order to be placed on the ballot, and they already have 600,000 unverified signatures to date. They are confident that when all is said and done, enough of the signatures will be approved to get the slot machine initiative on the November 7th ballot.
