International Game Tech Grows
International Game
Technology is one of the leading manufacturers of slot machines. In
fact, the Reno, Nevada, company makes approximately 70 percent of the
slot machines used across the world. They are so large, that they are
actually having problems finding new places to infiltrate. With so
many states looking to add slot machines to their “racinos”, IGT may
have a new slot machine market.
Racinos are
racetracks or off-track betting parlors that have slot machines. These
are becoming very popular, especially in Florida and Pennsylvania –
both of whom have just approved slot machine gambling in the racinos.
Florida alone is looking to add 6,000 slot machines in Broward County.
IGT believes that they will fill orders for about half of that number
of slot machines this year. Pennsylvania is slated to approve the slot
machines in September, which could possibly net IGT another 10,000
next year, with a total eventually reaching somewhere around 60,000
slot machines.
But IGT is not
limited to just America – they are also looking into other countries.
Japan is looking to replace their older slot machines with newer ones
– roughly 30,000 next year. Macau is also looking to add more
machines, with Las Vegas Sands and Wynn Resorts in talks to build a
new gambling Mecca on the southern coast of China. They are also
looking to get into downloadable slot machine games, which could be
another 60,000 slot machines a year by 2009. Back to
