Governor Rendell Looking to Change Slots Bill

Governor Ed Rendell is looking to help change the law in Pennsylvania that was passed two years ago. The law states that if companies want to buy slot machines, they have to purchase them through a middleman. Since that was passed, the discussion has gone back and forth as to whether it should be eliminated and let the companies buy the slot machines directly.

Many opponents of the section of the bill say that having a middleman only adds to the confusion that is already there for the slot machine owners and operators. They say that the only reason it was there in the first place was to add more money into the state’s pockets. Supporters say that it should not be eliminated, as it keeps a check on corruption, and brings in more jobs for the state.

Rendell says that if the bill ends up on his desk he is going to sign it. He thinks that the addition is just holding up the slot machine process, and if that is the case, then it needs to be taken away. He sent a letter to the Republican Senate Leaders last week to try and push them on a speedy decision.
