Broward Slots in the News

Last fall voters in Broward County voted on and approved slot machines for the county. The slot machines were to be located in pari-mutual facilities within the county. Now that everything seems like a done deal, the legislatures are trying to confuse the issue by allowing the votes to change their minds - and reverse their vote.

The legislature claims that the voters could not have been aware of the problems that bringing slot machines into the facilities would have caused. They have determines that they will turn two horse racing tracks, one Jai Alai, and one dog racing track into an absolute mess. Between the crime, the gridlock, and the zoning problems, they think that the residents are going to want to change their minds on the slot machines.

Supporters for the slot machines say that opponents are just looking for another reason to eliminate the slot machines that voters have already approved. They say that the slots will bring in thousands of jobs, as well as millions of dollars of revenue to the state. Slot machine opponents claim that it won’t help schools and that the crime that it will bring in is just not worth the price. They also think that the slot machines will hurt tourism in other parts of the state.
