Arkansas Plans to Approve Slots Regulations

Arkansas will soon be getting 24/7 gambling, as the Racing Commission goes into meetings in Little Rock next week.  The new rules that they are planning on approving will allow people to play the slot machines all day and all night, except for Christmas Day and Easter Sunday – those are the only two days that they will not be permitted the time change. For the slot machine owners, this is good news. Between the two existing racetracks that have the slot machines, there are over 2,000 slots to be played, and that means lots of money for the owners as well as the state.

The change will not take place immediately, but the owners like the fact that now that the provision is in there, they have the option of running the slot machines as much as they want.  They have to order them first, and that takes time.  Ever since the slot machines were approved by voters last November, the regulations have been waiting approval, and thus have kept the casinos waiting as well.

Obviously there are those that are not happy about the prospect of non-stop slot machines, two of which come from Crittenden and Garland counties, who are filing lawsuits to try and have the gambling stopped. However, at this point, all systems are still a go.
