Vote on Table Games Heating Up
With West Virginia tracks getting ready for the vote on whether or not
each of their respective counties will vote in approval of adding
table games to their slot machines, other groups are getting ready for
the vote as well. Several groups are against the table game
legalization, and are planning on fighting the state to block the
elections.
The West Virginia Family Foundation is planning on suing the state
saying that the new table games law should not be legal. They say that
there are problems with the statute, and are polling residents to see
what they think about the table games referendum. They are asking
questions to see if people are swayed by the prospect of more jobs, or
if they think there will be more crime or more gambling addiction.
They are also polling to see what residents think of their officials
such as Charleston Mayor Danny Jones, various county commissioners, as
well as the governor and the president.
Penn National also conducted a poll but will not release any details
of it. They would only say that they found the results “encouraging”
but would not go into any further details. Each of the tracks is
setting different dates to have their special elections, with Kanawha
County looking at a June 9th date. The other tracks are also looking
at June dates.
The Mountaineer Race Track & Gaming Resort is not planning on doing
anything else with the survey they did, but they did say that 60% of
voters polled said that they would support table games at the tracks.
They say that they find that helpful, and the other tracks probably
will as well.
