Table Games Vote Date

With West Virginia allowing voting in four counties to see if they will approve table games at their racetracks, each of the counties have gone ahead and set the date for their special elections. The counties will have to pay for the elections, so they can really set them for whenever they want, although it seems that most of them have decided to set the date for the same time in June.

Jefferson County’s County Commission unanimously set the date of their meeting last week for June 9th. However, Delegate John Doyle is now asking the commission to postpone the special election and make it for a later date. He says that voters will not have enough time to learn about the good and bad things that come with table games at the tracks, and they should be allowed to make an informed decision.

The County Commissioner says that they wish Doyle had spoken up before now. They say that the track asked them to set the date, a Saturday, because most people would be off from work. They also like it because most people will not have gone on vacation yet as it is so early in the summer.

With all of the counties having their elections on the same day, racetrack officials are hesitant to try and change the date. They think that the public will have plenty of time to get informed about the issue and decide if this is something they want or not. Doyle wants the track to enter into debates across the county to tell people about the games.
