The Slot Machine Underdog Wins

In a surprising move in the UK, the slot machines and the supercasino are not going to the anticipated recipient. Many citizens assumed that Cardiff would win the bid for the slot machines supercasino, but that doesn’t seem to be the case. Manchester can now boast themselves as the first city in the UK to win and operate slot machines at a supercasino.

This surprising move has left many of those already expecting the slot machines in Cardiff wondering what went wrong. Cardiff’s joint venture with James Packer was favorite choice and even analysts were surprised by the decision. Some even went so far as to assume that even though they only planned on awarding one slot machines supercasino, that they would end up granting permission to multiple cities.

That wasn’t the case though, and now the only hurdle Manchester has left before the slot machines’ supercasino decision is final is to win approval in Parliament—and most agree that Parliament will probably approve the decision without much pause.

But that doesn’t mean that Manchester will be seeing slot machines anytime soon even if they do win Parliamentary approval—then the biding process will begin as companies vie for the right to develop the slot machines and supercasino. And for the other cities hoping for a few more slot machine licenses, the Culture Secretary, Tessa Jowell stated that they have no intentions to grant more slot machine licenses until no earlier than 2010.
