Slot Machines Seized in Raids
Five different businesses were raided on Friday in conjunction with
illegal gambling, and all of the slot machines that were found on the
sites were confiscated by the Stark County sheriff’s department. The
sheriff’s department said that although no one was arrested they are
still investigating the businesses.
They seized 145 illegal slot machines, and said that the customers
that were found at the locations with the illegal machines have been
listed as suspects. Those found at the scene could be charged with
misdemeanor gambling offenses which is a criminal offense. For those
that have a prior record, they would most likely be changed to felony
status.
All of the slot machines were “eight liners” which are like playing
tic-tac-toe, but there is no way to actually play the screen. The
games are worth a total of $30,000 and are at the Sheriff’s office.
They said that the slot machines were not in any way skill based, and
therefore are considered games of chance which are illegal in the
state of Ohio.
The raids were a joint investigation involving several governmental
departments. The Sheriff’s Department, the Perry and Jackson Township
Police Departments, the Canton Police, the Franklin County Sheriff’s
Department, and the Canton and Massillon Prosecutor’s Offices.
