Mayor Gets Sentence for Illegal Operation

Vice Mayor York Bryant, 60, doesn’t have a bright future ahead of him because of his illegal slot machine gambling activities. In Warren County, owning and operating any form of slot machines or video poker machines is illegal, but the temptation was just too much for this county’s mayor. Bryant is not the only official to violate the law, but he is by far the most prominent village official, and his transgression is causing quite a stir.

Salem Township is such a small town—a population of only 1,300 people, so it is surprising that Bryant chose to operate the illegal slot machines and video poker gaming machines out of his restaurant. Papa’s Restaurant is a small unassuming restaurant in the town, and the three slot machines and one video machine could hardly go unnoticed.

As the restaurant owner, Mayor Bryant is directly responsible for the slot machines, and the repercussions operating them brings. Recently, a Warren County jury found the mayor guilty of all of the criminal charges against him. This is just the first stage though; next the mayor will face sentencing—and that could be as much as one year in prison.

So now it seems the mayor has come to justice and the village council is in a scramble to figure out what to do in the interim. The mayor will remain in office until his sentencing, and then the plan is to find his replacement. But some areas are still in question—will the mayor resign, and who will take his place? Right now these are still up in the air, but with the slot machines under control now, the town feels it is on the right track to recovering from the mayor’s criminal activities.
