Casinos Concerned With Kansas
With Kansas’ governor signing a bill that could make slot machines
legal in the state, many neighboring casinos are concerned with how it
will affect their revenue. There are several casinos in the Missouri
market that would suffer from the reduction in slot machine revenue,
as their current Kansas customers would undoubtedly choose to stay in
their home state.
Missouri casinos such as Harrah’s Entertainment, Isle of Capri, Penn
National Gaming and Ameristar Casinos will be duly impacted by the
change in gambling status for Kansas. Most of the current slot machine
revenue that comes out of Kansas will now stay there, but most casinos
are not planning on worrying about it just yet.
Several of them said that they were going to keep an eye on the
situation, but not do anything about it just yet. They know that the
people of Kansas are hesitant to approve that much gambling – so they
stand a real chance of it not passing. In fact, those larger casinos
such as MGM Mirage or Wynn, probably won’t even be interested in
setting up shop in Kansas – their sites are on Macau and the Strip
right now.
The amount of slot machines coming in could reach more than 10,000 by
the time everything is up and running. Initially it would only be
around 2,200 split up, but once all of the casinos open and the tracks
have their allotment of slot machines, you could be looking at the
biggest gaming shift across the US since Pennsylvania legalized 65,000
slot machines across their state.
