Online Casinos Don’t Give Up
On September 30th of last year, Congress passed the Unlawful Internet
Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) as part of the Safe Ports Bill, which
made online gambling illegal. Two weeks later, President Bush signed
it into law, and the online gambling industry lost 60% of its
business.
There were those that saw it coming, and had pulled out of the US
market already, then there were those that had not yet launched, so
they were able to launch in another country instead. However, many of
them were located within US borders and they lose a lot of money – not
to mention the ones that got arrested.
Companies started pulling out of the US at record speeds, and those
that stayed are considered illegal by US Justice Department rules.
Those that have decided to stay say that their revenue has actually
increased in the US as all of those opportunities for people to gamble
have drastically reduced, leaving very few to pick up what the others
have dropped.
Their incomes continue to increase as time goes on and people in the
US realize that there are options to continue gambling. They say that
as long as people want to gamble they are going to let them. They are
not alone, as there are many other companies still looking to join the
industry, saying that they are going to continue to play in a market
that obviously wants them.
Many think that it is just a matter of time before they make online
gambling legal again in the US. They say that the moral majority will
leave office when Bush does, and they are counting on a Democrat who
will give the majority of people what they want, instead of a small
subsection of the population.
